Our Key Issues
Early education prepares children for a lifetime of learning.
We work to give every child a strong start in life.
90% of brain development happens by age 5 — which makes early education essential. SCAN is closing the gap by supporting policies that create affordable, accessible learning opportunities. We also advocate for child care workers, ensuring they’re well-trained and fairly paid.
Tell Congress to Expand the Child Tax Credit
Millions of parents are struggling to afford food, rent and other essentials, putting kids at risk of hunger, homelessness and learning loss.
No child should go hungry, yet too many kids in Tennessee can’t access food at school. Tennessee lawmakers are considering legislation that would expand free school lunches. Tell lawmakers to say Yes to school meals!
New Mexico’s kids deserve the very best. Increased funding from the Early Childhood Trust Fund has the power to be transformative for thousands of kids. Tell lawmakers to support increased funding for early childhood education!
Child care officially costs more than housing in all 50 states. America’s child care crisis is spiraling out of control. Stronger child care tax credits will help millions of these struggling parents. Urge Congress to improve the child care tax credits!
Volunteer with SCAN and join a community of changemakers! There are endless ways to channel your passion for helping kids: write letters to the editor, participate in local events, fundraise or meet with Congress. Don’t worry — we’ll provide the tools you need to be a powerful champion for children.

I advocate with SCAN because they believe in the same issues I do. They fight for the kid that I once was.
