Save the Children Action Network (SCAN) a 501(c)(4) organization was founded by Save the Children in 2014, as their political and advocacy arm, to build bipartisan support to make sure every child has a strong start in life. Over the years we have grown and achieved a great deal of change for children. See some of our highlights below!
Opened state offices in Iowa, Illinois, South Carolina and Washington
Worked to pass Proposition 1B in Seattle, Washington to increase access to high-quality preschool programs
Invested $1.2 million in 10 federal, state and local elections
Supported the successful Best Starts for Kids ballot initiative in Washington
Growing our footprint
- Opened state office in New Hampshire
- Launched our Student Ambassador Program to engage high school and college students as changemakers for children
Campaigned to elect candidates running for Manchester, NH school board
High 5 for Kids campaign at the Republican and Democratic National Party Convention
We took the High 5 for Kids campaign to the Republican and Democratic National Party Conventions to raise the visibility of our issues. Leading up to the conventions volunteers attended more than 50 presidential candidate events, securing videos of top-tier candidates answering questions about our issues.
Launched our gubernatorial strategy in New Hampshire to drive our early learning agenda forward
Expanding our base
- Opened state offices in Tennessee and Colorado.
- Launched our Volunteer Leader Program to provide leadership opportunities for our advocates to engage with SCAN in their communities
Endorsed and worked to elect members of the Concord, NH school board
Improving policies for children
- Successfully lobbied for full-day kindergarten in New Hampshire
- Protected the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit (CDCTC) from elimination
Campaigned at the state and federal levels for early education reforms, achieving:
- Helped secure 50 Senate and more than 200 House bipartisan cosponsors of the Reach Every Mother and Child Act
- Passage of Expand Child Care Expenses Income Tax Credit bill in Colorado and Proposition 1 in Seattle, investing in children from cradle to career
Endorsed gubernatorial candidates in three states:
Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-NM), Phil Scott (R-VT), and Gina Raimondo (D-RI). All three candidates won their elections
$1 billion increase in federal investments and $236 million in state investments
Secured $1 billion increase in federal investments and $236 million in state investments for early childhood education across the country, including full-day kindergarten in Colorado
Campaigned for and passed Colorado Proposition EE to establish universal, statewide pre-K
High 5 for Kids Campaign Success
Ran a successful High 5 for Kids campaign that secured commitments from 10 top-tier presidential candidates to prioritize early childhood education during their first 100 days in office
Expanding our base in the south and in rural America
- Expanded our Family Engagement Program to new rural communities

Sent over 400,000 messages to members of Congress and held dozens of meetings to help pass $24 billion in vital child care pandemic relief

Secured nearly $800M in investments to expand early learning programs and ensure more children have enough to eat across 10 state legislatures, including successfully lobbied for full-day kindergarten in Kentucky and expanded full-day kindergarten in Idaho
1.2 million voters across 5 states
Reached 1.2 million voters across 5 states to help elect a bipartisan slate of 3 governors (Michelle Lujan Grisham, D-NM, Jaren Polis, D-CO, and Brad Little, R-ID) and 7 state lawmakers in IA and NH. We also Passed historic ballot measures in Colorado (Proposition FF) to create a universal school meals program and New Mexico (Constitutional Amendment 1) to create a permanent source of funding for early learning in the state
Over $900 million in investments across 8 states
Secured over $900 million in investments across 8 states to expand early learning programs and prevent child hunger, including the Child Care for New Hampshire Working Families Act securing a historic $60.5 million for child care
Winning for kids at the ballot box
- Helped elect a bipartisan slate of 8 candidates in Virginia and Louisiana and Elevated early childhood education and child hunger in the Kentucky gubernatorial race reaching more than 800,000 infrequent voters through ads and volunteer-powered voter turnout
- Mobilized to pass Proposition II in Colorado to fund universal preschool
