Eliminating Head Start would devastate families across the nation. Without government funding, countless programs will be forced to close their doors, push parents out of the workforce, and increase child poverty.
WHAT IS HEAD START?
Head Start and Early Head Start are federal programs FOR low-income families.
Early Head Start serves children ages 0–3, and Head Start serves children ages 3–5.
The programs are built on decades of research.
WHY HEAD START matters!
Head Start programs serve over 750,000 children from low-income backgrounds. In rural communities, it’s often the only reliable source of child care – providing early learning as well as nutritious meals and medical, dental and mental health services.
Often the only reliable child care option in rural
and underserved communities.
Offers wraparound services including:
Early learning and social-emotional development;
Nutritious meals and snacks;
Medical, dental, and mental health services;
Family well-being support and parent coaching.
Children in Head Start are more likely to:
Graduate high school;
Attend college;
Secure steady employment;
Break the cycle of poverty.
