McLean, VA (March 13th 2025) – It is time to give our children some of the love they deserve.
Across Virginia, far too many families are struggling to find affordable and high-quality child care. This year, 2023, the national average cost of childcare was $11,582 a child, with far too many families unable to reach it. When children aren’t able to receive quality early education, their potential for lifelong success and accomplishments, both inside and outside of school, could be harmed.
As a student, I’ve seen firsthand how valuable quality early childhood education is. I had the privilege of volunteering at a children’s center where I worked with five-year-olds. I saw how a caring, well-structured environment set these kids up for success. Beyond just learning letters and numbers, they were learning social skills, problem solving, and building their confidence. I witnessed how the right educational setting can spark curiosity and help children develop the skills they need to succeed in life.
Our elected officials can help make sure that all children-regardless of their background-have access to the quality education they deserve by investing in the Preschool Development Grants. PDG helps states improve and expand early learning programs, recruit and retain high-quality educators, and ensure that all children-regardless of their background-have access to quality education.
The future of our children—and our communities—depends on the decisions we make now. I call on Senator Tim Kaine and Mark Warner to support increased funding for Preschool Development Grants and ensure that every child in Virginia has the opportunity to benefit from high-quality early education. Our children’s futures cannot wait.
