The Not-So-Secret Reason We’ve Reached So Many Kids

August 4, 2025

What’s helped Save the Children reach hundreds of millions of kids with critical medical care, educational opportunities and other life-changing support?

Child-focused foreign assistance.

It’s been a mainstay of their work for decades – funding the food, water, shelter, health care and education our sister organization provides in over 100 countries.

But that lifeline just took a major hit. In July, the administration clawed back nearly $8 billion in approved foreign aid funding.

Here’s how that money should’ve been used to drive change:

  1. CONGRESS BUILDS THE BUDGET: Lawmakers decide how much funding goes to foreign assistance.
  1. AGENCIES ALLOCATE FUNDS: The State Department and others direct money to key countries and issues in line with lawmakers’ instructions.
  1. TRUSTED PARTNERS APPLY: Nonprofits like Save the Children apply for grants to deliver proven programs.
  1. NONPROFITS GET TO WORK: They partner with communities to provide health care, education, nutrition and more.
  1. NONPROFITS REPORT ON PROGRESS: Organizations collect data on progress and impact for communities, reporting at regular intervals.
  1. AGENCIES AUDIT NONPROFITS: Every dollar is tracked to ensure transparency and maximize impact.

Without stable, consistent funding, children WILL lose the support they rely on.

That’s what we’re fighting to prevent.

Fight for a Budget that Puts Kids First

The White House’s 2026 budget request is packed with deep cuts to lifesaving humanitarian aid, global health funding, school meals, and early childhood education. This is NOT the future children deserve. Tell Congress: Investing in kids is investing in America.
