SCAN Volunteer Received Congressional Recognition

Early Childhood Education

On May 28, 2026, Karla Pineda received congressional recognition from Congressman Gabe Vasquez for her work with children and families in Chaparral, New Mexico, and her advocacy as a volunteer with Save the Children Action Network (SCAN), which nominated her for this honor.

Congressman Vasquez specifically recognized Karla’s leadership through SCAN and the role she’s played in lifting up the voices of families and childcare providers. For those who know her, this recognition is a reflection of the work she brings to her community every day.

Karla has created a space that families trust through her home-based childcare program, where children grow, learn and feel supported. What began as child care has grown into something deeper, rooted in strong relationships with children and their families. She stays connected, keeps caregivers involved and creates an environment where kids are known and cared for as individuals.

Karla’s leadership also shows up in how she brings people together. Karla connects families, providers and community organizations to build a stronger network of support in Chaparral. Through her involvement with Proveedoras Unidas and her ongoing community work, she’s helped ensure that providers and families have a voice and feel like a part of something larger.

As an advocate, Karla carries her community’s experiences into spaces where decisions are made.

She’s met with lawmakers, shared what it takes to sustain childcare in a rural community and spoken about the importance of supporting the early childhood workforce.

She also encourages civic participation at the local level, helping neighbors stay informed, register to vote and engage in decisions that affect their families.

This recognition honors the consistent, community-rooted leadership Karla brings to her work. Her efforts continue to strengthen Chaparral and create lasting opportunities for the children and families she supports.

Together, we can build a stronger childcare system. Send your message to Congress today!
