New Hampshire budget priorities Need to deliver for families

May 13, 2025

Megan Brabec, New Hampshire State Manager

New Hampshire (May 13, 2025)

LAST WEEK, I testified at a Senate budget hearing in Concord — not as a policy expert but as a mom to a two-year-old who is living what many New Hampshire families are facing every day: child care costs that are impossibly high and opportunities that are slipping away.

This crisis doesn’t just affect families like mine, it costs our state. A recent study found New Hampshire loses about $500 million every year in economic productivity due to the lack of accessible, affordable child care for infants and toddlers. That’s not just a statistic, it’s lost workdays, lost wages and lost potential.

New Hampshire families are strong. We show up, we work hard, and we want what’s best for our kids. But we can’t do it alone. It’s time for the state to step up and give working families the support we need — not someday, but now.
