The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a lifeline for 42 million Americans, including 14 million children.
But its federal funding ground to a halt on November 1.
With no end in sight to the government shutdown, families are experiencing the most severe SNAP disruption in history. Many woke up to empty EBT cards for the first time in six decades – anxious about affording groceries as costs continue to climb.
RELIEF COMES TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE
On Monday, the Trump Administration said it’d partially fund November SNAP benefits. Recipients will receive just half of their usual benefits – and not for potentially two weeks at the earliest.
States are scrambling to fill the gap, tapping into emergency funds and deploying National Guard troops to support food banks.
Still, millions of kids will go hungry this month.
CHILD HUNGER IS A POLICY CHOICE
The fight to defend SNAP won’t end with this crisis. Recently passed legislation could impose stricter work requirements and even cut benefits over time.
“Protecting and strengthening SNAP is essential for the health, dignity and future of millions of children and families,” says Savannah Fox, Managing Director National Campaigns.
Tell Congress: Child hunger is a policy choice. Protect SNAP now!
