Meet the Changemaker Who’s Fighting for Democracy

Early Childhood Education

To Sofia, safeguarding democracy is a duty we all share.

“The world we live in today reflects the civic choices of past generations,” she says. “I believe it’s our responsibility to build a better future for those who come after us.”

Sofia became a Save the Children Action Network (SCAN) advocate during her junior year of high school. Now, she’s inspiring students across UConn’s campus to vote in the midterm elections.

One recent event brought record numbers of advocates together to write postcards to voters from their hometowns.

What started as a simple activity became a personal reminder that every voice, every vote and every action makes a difference.

“Young people… are the changemakers our nation needs,” says Sofia. “Voting allows us to speak up and create positive change in our communities. Ultimately, it’s our responsibility to advocate for the policies we believe will move the country forward.”

“Generations before us fought for the right to vote,” she continues, “so we should honor that legacy by exercising ours.”

Hundreds of advocates like Sofia are stepping up to rally voters this election season – students, parents, educators and even kids themselves. Because change only happens when we raise our voices.
