Invest in Kids, Invest in America: A Fourth of July Reflection

July 4, 2025

This Fourth of July, as we celebrate the founding of our nation and the bold ideals it was founded upon: liberty, equality, and self-determination, we’re reminded that the strength of America has always come from its people. And that strength begins with our children.

At Save the Children Action Network (SCAN), we believe that investing in kids is investing in America. The future of our country depends on bold action today to ensure every child, no matter who they are and where they live, has access to nutritious food, quality early learning, and the opportunity to grow up safe and healthy.

This Independence Day, we’re doubling down on the values that move us forward—equity, compassion, and opportunity—by advocating for policies that:

  • Prioritize Early Childhood Education: Every child deserves a strong start. Investing in child care and early learning not only prepares our kids for school, but also fuels our economy, supports working families, and builds stronger communities.
  • End Child Hunger: In the land of plenty, no child should go hungry. Programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and school meals are smart, strategic investments that improve health, enhance academic outcomes, and break cycles of poverty.
  • Support Foreign Assistance: American values extend beyond our borders. U.S. foreign aid provides critical support- like food, education, and healthcare- to children worldwide, advancing global stability and reinforcing our leadership and security at home.

As fireworks light up the sky and families gather in celebration, let us recommit to the founding promise: that every person, including every child, deserves a fair shot at life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. When we invest in kids, we invest in the very future of America.

This Independence Day, let’s honor our past by protecting our future.

Fight for a Budget that Puts Kids First

The White House’s 2026 budget request is packed with deep cuts to lifesaving humanitarian aid, global health funding, school meals, and early childhood education. This is NOT the future children deserve. Tell Congress: Investing in kids is investing in America.
