In June, Vice President Kamala Harris addressed a crowd of Guatemalans and told them “do not come” to the U.S. I was disappointed, but not surprised. Too many of our elected officials — Republican and Democrat alike — have a fundamental misunderstanding about immigration: that immigrants who come here undocumented are making an easy choice. For my family, and so many others, there was no choice, and it certainly wasn’t easy. If we hadn’t fled our native countries, we’d be dead.
It’s crucial that we let our leaders know that using tax dollars to ensure every family can send their children to high-quality care providers creates better outcomes for working families and kids.
Thanks to our combined efforts, all children in Kentucky, regardless of their zip code or socio-economic status, will have the best possible start to their education with full-day kindergarten!

Omar joined SCAN in July 2021. He came from working as a researcher at the National Association for State Procurement Officials (NASPO). He has advocacy experience with immigration and LGBT+ issues with the ACLU of Kentucky where he serves as a board member.
