WASHINGTON (July 27, 2025) — (WASHINGTON) – This Parents’ Day, Save the Children Action Network (SCAN) honors the unwavering determination and love of parents and caregivers around the world, who work tirelessly to give their children the best possible start in life. From ensuring access to healthy food and early education to seeking safety and opportunity in the face of adversity, parents everywhere share a common goal: a better future for their kids.
The $7.9 billion rescission of foreign assistance funding that was just signed into law cancelled funding that could be used to help children and families survive in the face of crisis and rebuild their lives in the aftermath. These cuts will mean fewer nutrition programs, reduced access to health care, and diminished humanitarian response, leaving parents and caregivers without the critical support they need to protect their children from violence, hunger, and disease.
Parents shouldn’t have to face hunger, conflict, or poverty alone. U.S foreign assistance helps stabilize communities, prevent forced displacement, and strengthen health, protection, and education systems so that parents can focus on raising their children with dignity, safety and hope.
This Parents’ Day, SCAN calls on congress to ensure appropriated foreign aid is spent to support children and support robust investments in children and families during the ongoing fiscal year 2026 appropriations process. Standing with parents—whether in the U.S. or around the world—isn’t just the right thing to do. It’s a strategic investment in a safer, more stable, and more compassionate world for every child.
