As the founder of a child care consulting firm – and a passionate advocate for early learning – Alexa Plew knows what child care providers need to succeed.
This year, she put that expertise to work at New Hampshire’s state capitol. With support from SCAN, Alexa testified in favor of expanding a critical child care scholarship program.
Shortly after, that bill was signed into law.
With a new governor in office and a $160 million budget deficit, New Hampshire advocates like Alexa were on high alert during the legislative session. Their tenacity helped secure $41.8 million for child care scholarships, plus $100,000 to streamline the program!
We also won $15 million in wage increases and professional support for early educators, along with $30,000 to launch a Women, Infant and Children’s Farmers’ Market Nutrition Pilot Program.

Fortunately, SCAN’s priorities have strong public support. Our bipartisan poll found that 86% of New Hampshire voters think early learning is a smart investment of taxpayer dollars.
2025 proved what’s possible when advocates speak up – and we’re just getting started.
