WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 10, 2018) – Save the Children Action Network (SCAN) will release a new broadcast television ad today in support of Michelle Lujan Grisham’s bid for governor, strongly backing her agenda to improve and expand early childhood education in New Mexico.

The ad notes that New Mexico ranks 49th in public schools and 44th in preschool enrollment, which leaves children in the state further and further behind. “Our children deserve a governor who will invest in early childhood education,” states the ad, which was recorded on location at Kennedy Middle School in Albuquerque.

“Michelle Lujan Grisham understands the vital role that education plays in creating a strong economy,” said Kris Perry, president of SCAN. “By investing in and improving early childhood education, we can give low-income children a chance to break the cycle of poverty and have the same opportunity to succeed as other kids.”

Perry urged voters who recognize the importance of high-quality early childhood education to cast their ballots for Lujan Grisham. “Michelle’s plan to make access to high-quality public Pre-K a reality for every family in the state is part of a bold initiative to turn around New Mexico’s public schools,” she said.

SCAN, a bipartisan organization that supports political candidates who prioritize access to and investments in high-quality early childhood education, will spend approximately $400,000 on the ad buy, which will air through Election Day, Nov. 6. In addition, SCAN will serve digital ads across the state and send mailers to targeted voters highlighting Lujan Grisham’s support for early childhood education.

In addition to paid voter contact efforts, SCAN staff will work to mobilize its grassroots advocates in the state on behalf of the Lujan Grisham’s early learning agenda and will work with her in 2019 to turn her ambitious plan of universal access to preschool a reality.
