WASHINGTON, D.C. (November 6, 2018) – Save the Children Action Network (SCAN) CEO Mark Shriver tonight congratulated Phil Scott for winning re-election as governor of Vermont.
“This is a big victory for kids. Gov. Scott’s plan to use new online sales tax revenue to boost child care subsidies will increase access to high-quality care for families in Vermont,” Shriver said. “Investing in our children means investing in Vermont’s economy. Quality early education and child care set kids up for life-long success and prevents moms and dads from leaving the workforce.
SCAN, a bipartisan organization that supports political candidates who prioritize access to and investments in high-quality early childhood education, also endorsed House Speaker Mitzi Johnson, a leader in early education who won re-election tonight.
“By re-electing these leaders, Vermont took a stand for the future and helped ensure all our kids get off to a strong start in life,” Shriver said.
SCAN aired a 60-second radio ad supporting Scott and sent direct mail to voters in Johnson’s district advocating for her re-election.
In 2019, SCAN will work to mobilize its grassroots advocates in Vermont on behalf of a strong early learning agenda and will work with both Democrats and Republicans to make high-quality early learning a top priority for the legislative session.
