WASHINGTON, D.C. (November 6, 2018) – Save the Children Action Network (SCAN) CEO Mark Shriver tonight congratulated Gina Raimondo for winning re-election as governor of Rhode Island.
“This is a huge victory for kids. With her pledge to provide universal pre-K for all 4-year-olds in the state, Governor Raimondo is building a strong foundation for Rhode Island children,” Shriver said. “High-quality early childhood education programs aren’t just good for kids—they’re good for Rhode Island. Universal Pre-K could boost Rhode Island’s economy by more than $230 million, a return of nine dollars for every one dollar invested.”
In her first term, Gov. Raimondo has established universal full-day kindergarten, increased access to public pre-K by tripling enrollment and signed into law the largest increase in a decade in child care assistance funding.
In support of Raimondo’s re-election bid, SCAN endorsed her in the primary and general elections, running television and digital ads, as well as sending mailers targeted to Rhode Island voters, all highlighting her support for early childhood education.
In 2019, SCAN will work to mobilize its grassroots advocates in the state on behalf of the governor’s early learning agenda.
