WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 29, 2018) – Save the Children Action Network (SCAN) today announced its endorsement of Governor Phil Scott’s bid for re-election, citing his plan to use new online sales tax revenue to boost child care subsidies to increase access to high-quality care for families in Vermont.

SCAN’s support for Governor Scott’s campaign includes a 60-second radio ad, which will air across Vermont through Election Day.

“Investing in our children means investing in Vermont’s economy,” said Mark Shriver, CEO of SCAN. “Quality early education and child care set kids up for life-long success and prevents moms and dads from leaving the workforce. But too many kids in Vermont don’t have access to affordable child care, which means families and our small businesses suffer. That’s why we are pleased to see Governor Scott’s innovative funding plan and are supporting his re-election.”

SCAN, a bipartisan organization that supports political candidates who prioritize access to and investments in high-quality early childhood education, has also endorsed House Speaker Mitzi Johnson and will be sending direct mail to voters in her district that advocate for her re-election.

“No one leader or party has a monopoly on good ideas and SCAN is committed to finding bipartisan solutions,” Shriver said. “That’s why we are endorsing Mitzi Johnson, who has fought tirelessly for more child care funding in the legislature. She continues to be a thoughtful leader in Montpelier we are eager to work with her to achieve meaningful change in 2019 and ensure more kids have access to quality care.”

In addition to paid voter contact efforts, SCAN staff will work to mobilize its grassroots advocates in the state on behalf of a strong early learning agenda and will work with both Democrats and Republicans who are making high-quality early learning a top priority for the 2019 legislative session.
