Save the Children Action Network Urges Seattle Voters to Support Proposition 1 – Renewing the Families, Education, Preschool, and Promise Levy

September 15, 2025

SEATTLE [September 15, 2025] — Save the Children Action Network (SCAN) is calling on Seattle voters to vote yes on Proposition 1, to renew the Families, Education, Preschool and Promise (FEPP) Levy, on the November 4th ballot.

The FEPP Levy is Seattle’s investment in children’s futures—funding high-quality preschool and child care, supporting K–12 student success, and expanding access to postsecondary opportunities.

Renewing the levy ensures that every child in Seattle, no matter their ZIP code or family income, has the resources and opportunities they need to thrive from their first day of school through college and career.

“Investing in kids is investing in Seattle’s future. Passing Proposition 1 will ensure quality preschool and child care are within reach for the city’s working families,” said Lacey Daniell-Miller, Western Regional Senior Director for SCAN. “We know this levy works—it has already expanded preschool access and improved graduation rates. Passing it again will ensure every child has a fair chance to succeed.”

Volunteers across Seattle are also stepping up to ensure voters understand the urgency of renewing Proposition 1.

“As a parent and community volunteer, I’ve seen firsthand how the FEPP levy changes lives,” said Suzette Espinoza-Cruz, Volunteer Leader with SCAN in Seattle. “Families shouldn’t have to choose between paying the bills and giving their child a strong start.  Proposition 1 makes early learning affordable and accessible for all children and that makes our whole city stronger.”

The current FEPP levy expires in 2025, and without renewal, children and families stand to lose critical support for preschool and childcare. For about $27 more per month for the average homeowner, less than a dollar a day, Seattle can secure lasting investments in children and families.

Proposition 1 is fiscally responsible, transparent, and accountable, with strong oversight to ensure every dollar goes directly to kids and families. Independent evaluations show the levy increases kindergarten readiness and high school graduation rates, making it a national model for education investment.

“Passing Proposition 1 is a promise to Seattle’s children and families,” added Daniell-Miller. “Proposition 1 makes early learning affordable and accessible for all children—and that makes the entire city stronger. When families have reliable, affordable child care, businesses benefit too: parents can work without worry, employers see higher productivity and lower turnover, and local economies grow. Investing in kids is also an investment in the workforce and business climate of tomorrow.”

Election Day is November 4, 2025. Ballots will be mailed on October 17. Save the Children Action Network urges every Seattle voter to put kids first by voting YES on Proposition 1.
