SCAN Leads Advocacy Push for Early Childhood Investments

Save the Children Action Network Leads Advocacy Push for Early Childhood Investments in Louisiana

Melissa Taveras, Senior Advisor, Communications Strategy

As the 2025 legislative session ends, Save the Children Action Network (SCAN) is proud to recognize the tremendous advocacy efforts that drove momentum for critical early childhood education (ECE) investments across Louisiana.

Throughout the legislative session,

  • SCAN advocates placed more than 250 calls to targeted lawmakers, urging support for early childhood education (ECE) funding priorities.
  • SCAN joined forces with the Geaux Far Louisiana Coalition to deliver public comment on HB1 before the House Appropriations Committee, calling for sustained investment in programs that give children the strongest start in life.
  • As a title sponsor of Ready Louisiana’s 2025 Early Ed Day at the Capitol, SCAN led efforts to mobilize over 100 advocates from across the state to Baton Rouge, demonstrating broad, grassroots support for ECE investments. Their voices brought urgency and authenticity to the call for continued investment in Louisiana’s youngest learners, both at the Capitol and in testimony before key legislative committees.
  • Building on that momentum, SCAN advocates delivered public comment on HB1 before the Senate Finance Committee, urging for sustained investments.
  • SCAN Advocate, Krystle Johnson, from Elton, Louisiana, submitted a letter to the editor, as one final call to support early education funding.

Despite a challenging fiscal environment in 2025, advocates successfully protected funding for the state’s Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP). The Louisiana Legislature passed HB1, which includes a $78 million investment in CCAP—maintaining level funding from last year and preventing further losses to this critical support for working families.

“We are proud to help lead a growing movement of advocates committed to giving every child in Louisiana a fair start,” said Marley Pulido, Senior Director State & Electoral Campaigns for SCAN. “Our communities are clear: investing in kids is investing in Louisiana. This session showed what’s possible when voices from every corner of the state come together to demand action.

SCAN remains committed to championing bold, bipartisan policies that support working families and set children on a path to lifelong success.
