Tell Congress: Support early childhood Education programs

In February, we send valentines to those we love. For Have a Heart, we send valentines to support those we love. All February long, we’re calling on Congress to fund life-changing early learning programs by sending them valentines.

Early Childhood Education

Personalizing your message helps your legislator understand the importance of Early Childhood Education. You are encouraged to add a sentence or two about why you care about this issue or your own experiences with ECE programs. Here are some additional talking points that you can include:

  • High quality early childhood education is critical for children’s cognitive, social, and emotional development. 90% of brain development happens before the age of 5.
  • Investing in ECE sets children up for success in school and life, reducing long-term societal costs. Research shows that investing in early childhood and nutrition programs yields significant long-term economic benefits, including higher educational achievement, better health outcomes, and increased economic productivity. Every dollar invested today can save up to $13 in future public costs.
  • Historically, federal child care programs have received bipartisan backing. We urge legislators to come together again, putting the needs of children first.
  • Investing in early childhood education is an economic strategy that strengthens our workforce and reduces long-term social service costs. Quality early learning programs are proven to narrow achievement gaps and set children on a path to success, helping build a stronger, more equitable economy.
  • When we invest in early childhood education, we are investing in stronger communities. Every dollar spent today helps build a healthier, more educated, and productive society tomorrow.
  • We need Congress to make ECE funding a priority in the upcoming appropriations process. It is time to turn promises into action.
