DES MOINES, IA (November 6, 2024) – Save the Children Action Network (SCAN) – the political voice for kids – applauds the election of Matt Blake (D – Senate District 22) and reelection of Representatives Jon Dunwell (R – House District 38) and Tracy Ehlert (D – House District 79) – proven champions for children in Iowa.
We are also hopeful for the reelection of Senator Sarah Trone Garriott (D – Senate District 14), who is currently ahead although the race remains too close to call.
Paige Chickering, Iowa state manager for SCAN, said: “Last night’s victory is a win for kids and families across Iowa. Save the Children Action Network’s mobilization efforts have succeeded in electing champions for children to our legislature. By electing Matt Blake and Representatives Dunwell and Ehlert, Iowa voters sent a clear message to political leaders about the importance of investing in high-quality affordable early childhood education and combatting child hunger. It is vital that the next legislature listen to their constituents and prioritize these issues when reconvening in January. We look forward to working with these newly elected lawmakers to deliver results for Iowa families and children.”
SCAN activated a successful multi-faceted effort in support of the bipartisan slate of candidates that reached more than 220,000 voters through a mix of digital ads (spend $116,870) and a strategic direct voter contact program that included text banking, door knocking, phone calls and handwritten postcards.
