As Father’s Day approaches, we celebrate Sargent Shriver, a father of five (including our president, Mark Shriver) and a true champion for kids and the poor. He devoted his life to help transform the lives of the most vulnerable people in our country, particularly children. His creation of Head Start, a program that aims to provide comprehensive early childhood and parenting education services to disadvantaged preschool children, has helped more than 33 million American children for kindergarten and beyond.
Today, we carry on Sargent Shriver’s dedication to breaking the cycle of poverty by making sure every child has the opportunity for a strong start in life and a bright future. Together, we can help girls and boys who are missing out on early learning have a chance to succeed.
