Thursday Thoughts from Student Ambassador Sarai Ortiz

Sarai Ortiz, a first time Student Ambassador for SCAN, is a rising senior at the University of Washington. After attending our Advocacy Summit this year and meeting with likeminded students and advocates from across the country, Sarai left feeling empowered to protect and expand early childhood education and international child survival programs through advocacy work.

“I became aware that advocacy work is essential [to] our American democracy,” says Sarai. “There’s always room for more [political advocacy] in the campaign for social equity.”

Sarai hopes to take the confidence and skills she learned at the Advocacy Summit, to further her in her role as a Student Ambassador as well as her long-term career goals in political advocacy work.
