Evin*, 8 months old, was born in Greece, but her parents are both from Iraq.
Her family was exposed to violent conflict in their home country, which forced them to flee to Kara Tepe, a refugee camp in Lesvos, Greece. Efsan*, Evin’s 19 year old mother, was pregnant with Evin at the time they fled. Upon her arrival in Greece, she went into labor and gave birth to her little girl.
Efsan now visits Save the Children’s Mother and Baby Area at the camp every day to spend time with other mothers and receive support from Save the Children’s staff. There, she also receives skilled advice and support on nutrition and breastfeeding.
Programs like these are providing support to the vulnerable families and children living in Kara Tepe. With Save the Children’s intervention, these families have a safe and stable environment to live in.
