Washington, D.C. (October 11, 2016) – Save the Children Action Network (SCAN) today announced its endorsement of former New Hampshire state Senator Peggy Gilmour in the Nov. 8 election for state Senate District 12.

“We are proud to endorse Peggy Gilmour, who will work hard to make sure kids in New Hampshire have the chance to attend high-quality early education programs if she is elected,” said Mark Shriver, president of SCAN. “I encourage New Hampshire’s voters to support candidates like Peggy Gilmour, who understand that high-quality early learning helps ensure success at the post-secondary level, is a key component to any long-term strategy to fight the state’s heroin and opioid epidemic and improves the state’s economy.”

“It is ultimately the responsibility of parents to raise and instruct their children, but early education can assist families, particularly those facing tough times, so that children have an equal opportunity to succeed in life,” said Shriver. “New Hampshire is one of the only states east of the Mississippi River without state-funded preschool. The Granite State needs leaders in the State House who are committed to prioritizing expanding access to high-quality early childhood education if they are elected.”

SCAN also endorsed state Senate Majority Leader Jeb Bradley (R-Senate District 03) in his race for the state Senate and Democrat Colin Van Ostern in the New Hampshire gubernatorial race.
