Denver, Colo. (May 9, 2018) – Save the Children Action Network President Kris Perry released the following statement today on the state Senate’s passage of the Expand Child Care Expenses Income Tax Credit bill, HB18-1208, which passed with a 28-7 bipartisan vote. The House passed a similar version of the bill in late April but now must pass this exact bill before the legislature can send to the Governor for his signature into law.

“We are grateful to Speaker Duran, Senator Beth Martinez Humenik and members of the Colorado Senate for moving this vital legislation forward. It will help low- and middle-income families afford one of the most critical items in their monthly budget – quality care and education for their children.”

“An expansion of the state Child Care Expenses Income Tax Credit to allow eligible taxpayers to claim a larger credit would help ensure more children in Colorado have access to the strong start in life they deserve.”

“Republicans and Democrats in Colorado support expanding access to child care. This is a wise investment for families now and for the state’s economy in the long run.”
