Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV)

MIECHV is a ladder out of poverty for struggling families

Every child deserves a strong start in life. But for 1 in 5 children in the U.S., poverty gets in the way.

The Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) program transforms futures, empowering at-risk caregivers and children with the tools they need to thrive.

But if Congress doesn’t renew MIECHV this fall, hundreds of thousands of families in the nation’s hardest-to-reach communities will lose essential early learning and health support – and without additional funding, millions of kids may never reach their full potential

Your voice matters! In less than 15 minutes, you can make an impact that lasts a lifetime...

IMPACT

In 2020, MIECHV delivered life-changing support to 140,000 at-risk parents and children during more than 900,000 home visits.

But with limited funding, this essential program reached just 3-5% of eligible families – and that was before COVID-19 exacerbated hunger, unemployment and learning challenges for millions across the country.

Together, we can tell Congress that their futures matter.

It’s time to invest in MIECHV – and kids’ futures

Every parent has big dreams for their child. But it’s hard to plan for brighter tomorrows when you’re struggling to survive each new day.

MIECHV can change that – giving millions of kids a chance to achieve their dreams.

WHAT

MIECHV provides voluntary home visiting services to families in need, empowering caregivers and children with the tools they need to thrive.

Home visits:

  •  Are carried out by professionals who visit the homes of at-risk families and children
  • Are offered from pregnancy through the child’s entry into kindergarten
  • Help at-risk families navigate parenthood by promoting child health and development and connecting them to support services

WHY

As the leading expert on childhood, we know that MIECHV is more than a resource for low-income children – it’s a ladder out of poverty.

Save the Children has invested in the home visiting model for decades, establishing a critical network of support in rural communities across the nation.

We bring educational tools and nutrition support right to families’ doorsteps, helping them thrive in the face of devastating obstacles like poverty, hunger and unemployment.

Home visiting works – just ask Diana, a mom of three.

Not long ago, her family shared a single bedroom. She was desperate to give her children the strongest possible start in life, but she lacked the confidence to teach them.

Today, thanks to Save the Children’s home visiting program, Diana’s family practices a healthy early learning routine in a home of their own.

HOW

Advocates like you helped Save the Children secure a massive victory for families when MIECHV was reauthorized in 2017 with wide bipartisan support

We’ve passed this legislation before – and together, we can do it again!

But only if we act NOW. If MIECHV expires this fall, countless children will lose the only lifeline connecting them to the bright futures they deserve.
