All babies deserve a healthy and vibrant start to life, but for some, just surviving until their fifth birthday is a challenge. Many of the world’s youngest citizens struggle simply because of where they were born. We can — and must — help change this.

As a future educator, I know the importance of early childhood education for all children for both social and academic development. Unfortunately, as summer draws near, many parents are struggling to find quality care.
The 2017-2018 school year was an exciting time for SCAN’s Student Ambassador Program. They went the extra mile to empower those around them to advocate for issues at the local, state and national levels. Here are some highlights from the year!
For more than 25 years, I have visited Head Start programs all across the nation. Each time I am inspired by the children and families who go to these programs to not only learn, but to become future leaders. That’s the power of Head Start. It transforms lives by giving children living in poverty a chance at the future they deserve.
Here is my challenge to you: this week, take one action. I promise that the action will spark an energy that will inspire you to keep acting and using your voice to change the world, one step at a time.
Motherhood should be celebrated. You can do a small part, through advocating for the Reach Every Mother and Child Act, to ensure joy is present with every pregnancy, child, and in every family.
